Have a Noble Purpose – “Do Something Good”

Shan Shanbhag, Ph.D.

Mentor and Business Development Advisor

Shanbhag Enterprises

I sent a text message to my God and asked what the charge was to get into heaven, in rupees, dollars and/or stock options. She replied in nanoseconds, “money and your wealth have no value here. We look for Your Legacy, how you helped the needy and your community/tribe.

Have a Noble Purpose and Do Something Good. It is as simple as that. By the way, the door to hell is open 24/7; No charge!”

Everybody gets two chances. The second one starts when they realize they have only one left. Some people will wake up at 50 realizing how they have wasted so much time, only to realize at 80, they have wasted another30 years. Time is the most precious asset each of us have, that most of us squander away.

This is the time of the year, during the Holiday Season, when most of us (at least subconsciously) make a New Year Resolution.Unfortunately, according to research conducted by Strava using 800million user- logged-in activities, most of those resolutions will be abandoned on January 19, “Quitter’s Day!”

There is so much suffering all over the globe. Noble purpose is something that serves the greater good, helps the human tribe, and leaves an enduring positive legacy.

Here are some simple steps you can take that will not only help you keep your New Year’s resolution, but more importantly achieve any Goal you set:

1.     Turn your noble goal/resolution into a specific, measurable goal for next 90 days.

2.     Piggy-back on current habits and work with an accountability partner/buddy.

3.     Make sure you engineer your collaborative environment. Stay away from negative influencers.

4.     Actively measure your progress and don’t sweat the bad days.

5.     “Don’t Worry, Be Happy.” Worry is the worst disease. It is the precursor for stress. Stress is the precursor for most of our miseries!

During this Holiday Season, first, give yourself a gift-be kind to yourself and then to everyone else. Be a collaborator and empath. That is the roadmap for your Legacy-Journey.
