🚀 Alumni Spotlight: Daniel White Is Closing “The Information Gap™” with Scan If Hurt™

For entrepreneurs, the journey from an initial idea to a clear, focused mission is rarely a straight line. For StarterStudio alumni Daniel White, that journey has been shaped by personal tragedy, years of learning and persistence, and a commitment to solving a problem that can matter most when seconds count.

Today, Daniel is leading Scan If Hurt™, a safety technology company designed to help close what the company calls The Information Gap™ – the critical period after something happens, when the first person on the scene is trying to get help for someone who may be injured, unconscious, confused, or otherwise unable to speak for themselves.

🆘 Closing The Information Gap™

A Scan If Hurt Safety ID can be scanned using any smartphone camera – no app or login required.

Once the individual is visually verified through their profile photo, a First Helper can access the person’s emergency profile, identify and share their location, call 911, provide important emergency information, and contact the people who need to know. That same information is also available to EMS when they arrive.

The goal is simple but powerful: make critical information accessible when the person who needs help may not be able to speak for themselves.

As Daniel explains, The Information Gap™ is the period immediately after something happens and before EMS arrives, when a First Helper may need to identify the injured person, identify and communicate their location, call 911, share important information, and contact loved ones.

Scan If Hurt’s North Star is:

“No person in an emergency should ever become unidentified, voiceless, or their loved ones unknown.”

🏍️ A Tragedy That Sparked a Mission

The inspiration behind the company came from a tragic dirt biking accident involving one of Daniel’s friends and fellow riders.

After being critically injured and left unconscious, the people around him wanted to help but did not have access to his medical information or a way to contact his family. Because he was unable to speak for himself, critical information was unavailable at the moment it mattered most. He later passed away.

That experience exposed a problem Daniel could not ignore.

The people with his friend cared deeply and wanted to help, but they simply did not have access to the information they needed. He also wasn’t carrying his phone that day–and even if he had been, a phone could be locked, damaged, dead, or separated from its owner.

That moment became the beginning of what was originally known as Scan ID 365.

🔄 From Scan ID 365 to Scan If Hurt™

The original focus of Scan ID 365 was centered primarily around identification and making emergency information and emergency contacts accessible.

But as the product evolved, Daniel spent more time listening to customers, emergency professionals, motorsports organizations, safety advocates and potential partners. Through those conversations, he realized that identification was only one piece of a much larger problem.

The real challenge was The Information Gap™.

That realization led to the evolution of the company and the transition from Scan ID 365 to Scan If Hurt™.

The rebrand represented far more than a new name. The company substantially rebuilt and improved the product, clarified the customer experience, developed a more focused brand and message, and created a foundation for multiple ways the technology can be used across industries and communities.

Most importantly, Scan If Hurt immediately communicates the purpose behind the product–and the mission driving the company forward.

🌍 Building for More Than One Use Case

While Scan If Hurt offers individual and family Safety IDs, Daniel and his team are also exploring opportunities to bring the technology into new environments where people may be especially vulnerable during an emergency.

Applications include:

🏍️ Motorsports, cycling, e-bike, and powersports organizations

🏁 Organized sports, athletic programs, and recreational leagues

🏢 Employers and workforce management companies

🎟️ Events and venues

⚓ Maritime organizations

❤️ Senior care, healthcare, and caregiving organizations

♿ Disability and accessibility organizations

🤝 Membership and community-based organizations

One emerging application could allow an event ticket or credential to become a temporary Scan If Hurt Virtual Safety ID.

An attendee’s emergency profile could remain active for the duration of an event and expire afterward–helping close The Information Gap without requiring someone to purchase, download, or wear anything additional.

It is an example of how the underlying technology can be adapted to meet the needs of different organizations, communities, and environments.

⚓ Recent Milestones and What’s Next

Scan If Hurt has reached several important milestones as the company prepares for its next stage of growth.

Recent accomplishments include:

✨ Completing the Scan If Hurt rebrand and major product updates

🇺🇲 Earning SBA certification as a Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned Small Business

🏁 Expanding relationships within the motorsports and safety communities

📈 Building the sales, marketing, partnership, and operational systems needed to support the company’s next stage.

Scan If Hurt has completed a custom maritime edition for Code Alpha, with a soft launch planned for the September 16 Triton event followed by its official launch in Monaco.

Developed in partnership with Captain Deb of American Yacht Agents, who created Code Alpha specifically for this initiative, helped shape the edition and invested in its development, the Code Alpha edition includes maritime-specific capabilities for managing channels, vessels, captains, crews, and users, along with documents and notes relevant to their needs. It demonstrates how Scan If Hurt can tailor its platform to a specific industry while keeping everything within the same underlying technology.

💡 A Journey of Learning, Rebuilding, and Persistence

Like many entrepreneurial journeys, Daniel’s has involved learning, rebuilding, testing, and continuing forward through setbacks.

What began as an effort to solve an identification and information problem evolved through years of product development, customer conversations, market testing, and persistence.

Along the way, Daniel came to understand the larger human problem behind the technology.

Today, the company is more focused because the mission is clearer.

Scan If Hurt is no longer simply explaining what the technology does. The company understands why it needs to exist, the problem it is solving, and the outcome it is working toward.

💜 The StarterStudio Connection

StarterStudio has been an important part of Daniel’s entrepreneurial evolution.

Through the program, Daniel was challenged to think more deeply about focus, positioning, scalability, and the importance of developing a true North Star.

Those lessons continue to influence how he evaluates opportunities and builds Scan If Hurt today.

Daniel’s journey is a reminder that entrepreneurship is often about more than finding the right product. Sometimes, it is about continuing to listen, learn, adapt, and refine your understanding of the problem until the mission becomes clear.

🚀 Looking Ahead

With a stronger brand, an improved product, new partnership opportunities, and a clearer understanding of the problem Scan If Hurt is built to solve, Daniel is entering an exciting new chapter.

As Scan If Hurt continues to grow, the company is exploring new ways to bring its technology into the hands of individuals, families, organizations, and communities–helping ensure that when an emergency happens, critical information is accessible to the people trying to help.

We’re so proud to celebrate Daniel and the continued evolution of Scan If Hurt™ and look forward to seeing what comes next.

Congratulations, Daniel, on these incredible milestones! We’re proud to have you as part of the StarterStudio alumni community and excited to continue following your journey.
